Formal training

Formal training includes B.Agric., B.Agric.Hons. M.Agric. and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Management.

Research

A multidisciplinary systems approach is used and emphasises practical skills development in its practical and theoretical learning programmes in agricultural management.  The practical application of the systems approach demands cooperation with various other disciplines.  The systems approach to agricultural management is used in formal as well as in informal training in pursuit of the main purpose which is the increase in management efficiency of farmers/managers in order to ensure sustainable and profitable agricultural production.

We specialise in research on the economics of precision agriculture in South Africa.  Other research topics also include agricultural management strategies in technology transfer and adoption.

Informal training

Informal training includes a variety of short courses in for commercial farmers, namely Financial Planning and Management, Strategic Approach to Farming Success. Short courses presented to emerging farmers include Farm Management, Interprise Budgets, The Cashflow Budget, and Balance Sheet.  These courses are presented in three languages: Afrikaans, English and Sotho.
