The University of the Free State (UFS) Disaster Management Training and Education Centre for Africa (DiMTEC) is in the foreground of disaster management training in Africa. Our students from across Africa actively contribute to every sphere of the profession. Short courses are presented in various countries with our project managers who go as far as the Sudan for research purposes.
History
Our first course was approved and registered by die South African Qualifications Authority in 2001, and in 2002 we joined the Department of Agricultural Economics with the vision of becoming an independent centre, which realised within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences in 2006.
At DiMTEC we strive towards informing the public about the reduction of disaster risk through means of our Master’s degree in disaster management, short courses and research.
We are very proud of our memorandum of understanding with the United Nations University for Environmental and Human Safety. This memorandum guarantees the exchange of lecturers between various NGOs and us worldwide.
We are soon opening offices in:
- Zimbabwe
- Namibia
- Mozambique
- Kenya
- Congo – Brazzaville
This will ensure easy access to our Africa students and clients.
